Real Talk About Stress & Anxiety

Many people use the terms stress and anxiety interchangeably. However, stress and anxiety are not the same things. Stress is a valid response to things happening around you. Your body responds to outside stimuli, and that response causes your blood to pump harder, heart to race, and your muscles to tense. This is your body’s way to prepare itself to either fight or run. Stress is okay in small amounts and can be helpful in some situations.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is your body’s irrational response to internal stimuli. You will have all the same symptoms that appear when we experience stress, but these are caused by our thoughts, not something that is happening to us. Anxiety is a BAD THING for our bodies since it causes us to experience these symptoms repeatedly. This can lead to other long-term health issues.

Now that you know the difference between the two, we can learn how to deal with both.
